The Gift of Blogging - The Evolution of a Beautiful MInd

Tom Barnett has become a well-known thought leader, contributor to Esquire Magazine and a popular author since the publication of The Pentagon's New Map in 2004.

In this article from Tom's blog, he tells the story of how he, and his alter-ego "webmaster" Critt Jarvis evolved, through their blog, a powerful new way to stimulate conversations with their readers that have kept the first book alive and have contributed greatly to the creation of its sequel A Blueprint for Action which will be published by Putnam this Fall.

In this brilliant essay on the power of the blogosphere, Tom not only reveals himself as the self-referential author, but extolls the blog process for its value in archiving his research and thinking process and in conncecting him to his growing community of readers. His symbiotic relationship with webmaster Critt Jarvis puts a very human face on the importance of blending the technological capacity to create and maintain a serious blog with the author's ability to keep the blog alive with content co-generated with his readership.

Must reading for publishers, authors, journalists and serious bloggers.
