Second Lives

Mr. Au: ( I hope that is the right name) I have been following Tom Barnett's career for several years and was delighted to see his debut of the Blue Print for Action on SL New World Notes: New World Notes: NEW WORLD MAPMAKER: THE SECOND LIFE OF THOMAS P.M. BARNETT, PART I

More to the point, having been introduced to Phillip Rosedale and Linden Labs over a year ago, I had pushed the thought of Second Lives off my radar as being too much of an escapist venue. I now see how the blurring of the lines between the "real" and virtual worlds provides a new publishing medium for authors like Tom whose narratives naturally tend to be powerfully augmented by virtual simulation and gaming and by very active audience participation.

Barnett is unusual in that he, and his alterego tech wizard Critt Jarvis, have fully grasped the power of the blogosphereThomas P.M. Barnett :: Weblog: The Gift of Blogging and have now entered the even more powerful realm of MMO gaming and simulation. I think Tom and Critt are likely to provide a role model for other authors and might also offer a new vector for virtual/real world narration and audience participation for SL.

I am interested in pursuing this intersection of print publishing with SL worlds that allow authors and SL players to enrich the narrative and help the author progress more rapidly.

Can we talk?
